Patrick Duffy’s roots trace back to the wide-open spaces of Montana, where he spent his early years — with a two-year adventure in Alaska between the ages of 2 and 4. At age 12, his family moved to Seattle, where he finished school and later graduated from the University of Washington’s rigorous Professional Actors Training Program in 1971.
The following year, he made the leap to New York City, chasing the dream of the stage. In his 18 months there, he landed just one theater role — unpaid — but it turned out to be a pivotal moment. An agent saw him in that small attic production and encouraged him to head west to Los Angeles.
There, Patrick supported himself with carpentry work and delivery jobs while continuing to pursue acting. Everything changed when he landed the lead role in the sci-fi series Man from Atlantis after multiple callbacks and a screen test. That break led to 24 years of continuous work as an actor, including his iconic role as Bobby Ewing on Dallas, followed by starring in the family sitcom Step by Step and later appearing on The Bold and the Beautiful.
Patrick also brought his talents to the stage, performing in London’s West End production of Art and touring the UK alongside his partner Linda Purl in the play Catch Me If You Can. Offscreen, he’s a proud father to two sons, Padraic and Conor, and grandfather to four.
